'Advanced Genomics and Bioinformatic Research Group (İGBAM)', has been formed in 2011 with the support of the Ministry of Development of the Republic of Turkey(formerly known as The State Planning Organization) after the establishment of Genome Sequencing and Bioinformatic Labs, which have the capability of whole genome sequencing, for the purpose of forming a National Bioinformatics Network in Turkey.

İGBAM works in the fields of genetic data security, genetic data analysis (bioinformatic) and biosensors, which are considered critical and strategic assets by Turkey, creating added value from the stage of research and development to achieve and sustain Turkey's technologic independence, and to enhance its competitiveness. The group ,which consists of a multidisciplinary team (Computer Science, Electronics, Mathematics, Bioinformatics and Biotechnology), works product and future oriented with help from local and international advisors.

Advanced Genomics and Bioinformatics Research Center (İGBAM) no longer operates under BILGEM-UEKAE institute. The research center has been transferred to MAM-Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Institute on September 2016 and nowcontinues its activities under the new management.
